Sale Map

The sale map is available in three forms:

1.) Online + interactive map, 2.) Hard copy map, 3.) Electronic map and Excel list

• Online + Interactive Map
  • Live 'Locate Me' dot, with real-time driving directions, searchable list of sales and items
    • Available here starting Monday, July 6

•  Hard Copy Map & List
  • Printed map with a list of sale addresses and items          
    • Available in front of the Library (at the curb next to the above-ground parking lot at 585 Franklin St.) and City Hall (outside the main entrance at 500 Castro St.), starting the Wednesday before the sale
      • Look for a box with hardcopies on the ground between two sandwich boards
• Electronic Map & Excel List
  • PDF map with Excel list of sale addresses and items
    • Available here for download starting the Wednesday before the sale

Shoppers will be able to search the address list by street, neighborhood and day(s) the sale is open.  Additional information provided includes identifying multi-family sales, item categories, and "notable" items identified by sellers.

Feel free to grab the Hard Copy Map & List from the Library or City Hall to display at your garage sale, like this resourceful gentleman!  Take two copies to display the front and back.

Payment Options

You may choose to accept cash payment only, electronic payment only, or both payment methods at your sale.
Post your payment preferences prominently at your sale.

Electronic Payments (such as Venmo or Zelle)

• Consider printing and posting your personal QR code for shoppers to scan
• Confirm payment is complete before ending a transaction with a shopper
• You may stipulate electronic payment above a certain dollar amount (e.g., Venmo payments accepted for purchases over $10)

Multi-Family Residents 

Do you live in a multi-family residence and want to host a sale? You have options!

• Host a sale in your garage or your carport
• Please get approval from your property management or HOA first, especially if you want to host a sale in your unit or in a common area
• Register with a friend or neighbor that has a driveway or a lawn
• If you and your neighbor(s) don't have enough items for a sale at each of your homes, consider combining them together at one location and register as a multi-household sale
• Get permission from the president/owner of a parking lot at your school or work, and hold a multi-family sale, Trunk-or-Treat style!

Do you live in a single family residence and want to attract more shoppers?

We encourage you to have your neighbors register for the garage sale or to hold a block sale to attract more shoppers. 

Alternatively, if you and your neighbor(s) don't have enough items for a sale at each of your homes, consider combining them together at one location and register as a multi-household sale.

Unsold Items 

Below find convenient ways to distribute your unsold sale items.

Donation 

After the sale, unsold items can be donated to local charities.  Use our Donation Agencies List for a list of organizations near Mountain View.

Re-Use Organizations

Before you throw it out, see if someone else can use it!

Buy Nothing: The Buy Nothing project promotes a gift economy to reduce waste and build community.  Offer everything from furniture to extra fruit from your backyard tree, as long as it's free.  Search for your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook, or use the free app available at BuyNothingProject.org

TheHumSum.org: Links donations of business and household items with the wish-lists of nearby nonprofits that can provide pick-ups or accept drop-offs.

Freecycle.org: Everything posted must be offered free of charge.  Search the site for the local groups, each is moderated by a local volunteer and is free to join.

Facebook Marketplace: Easily buy, sell, or offer for free items on Facebook Marketplace.  Must have a Facebook profile to post items.

Additionally, any unusable items you may find when cleaning out your garage and/or closet for the sale can be recycled or disposed of using the resources below:

On Call Plus Service 

Residents with curbside cart service may be eligible for an On Call Plus service.  On Call Plus service is a free curbside collection cleanup service for residents, scheduled by appointment, to set out extra trash, recycling, or compost PLUS up to three bulky goods, such as appliances or furniture.  Contact Recology to schedule at 650-967-3034 or ContactUsRMV@Recology.com
Residents in apartment complexes over 9 units, please contact your property management.

Self-Haul to SMaRT Station 

On Call Appointments may be exchanged for a Voucher to self-haul items directly to the SMaRT Station in Sunnyvale.  All vouchers expire December 31st.  For details, see the SMaRT Station Vouchers section of our Clean Up Programs webpage.
