Mountain View Transit Center Master Plan

The development of a Transit Center Master Plan began in December 2015 and was completed in May 2017. It identified the facilities needed to serve the current and future demands at the transit center. In addition, the plan provided recommendations to improve safety, station capacity, and multimodal access to the transit center and downtown Mountain View. The plan included several elements, including:

• Evaluation and recommendations for Castro Street and/or Central Expressway grade-separation or major reconfiguration options, including the possible closure of Castro Street to vehicular traffic at the rail tracks.
• Evaluation and recommendations for improved transit facilities, better pedestrian and bicycle access, pick-up and drop-off space, and rail platform expansion (allowing longer trains).
• Evaluation and recommendations regarding parking structure options and the potential for better use of the existing surface parking lot.
• Assessment of cost, phasing, and implementation strategies for master plan recommendations.

The current Mountain View Transit Center Grade Separation and Access Project is intended to accomplish many of the station access improvement recommendations made in the Master Plan. Future planning and design efforts, not yet initiated or funded, will be undertaken to advance other areas of the Master Plan.

The Master Plan was developed with extensive outreach and coordination with stakeholders and community members, including three community open houses, four City Council study sessions, and numerous updates to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (B/PAC) and local business groups.
