Department Overview

The IT Department is responsible for planning, maintaining, and managing the City's computerized information systems and communications networks. Services include the following:

Network infrastructure management
Cyber security
VoIP phone system
Email administration
Project management
Desktop and help desk support
Off-the-shelf application support
Server maintenance and operations
GIS development and support
Vendor management
Website development and support

Additionally, the IT Department staff supports various legacy systems, and explores opportunities to deploy updated technology in a variety of areas such as budget transparency, citizen engagement, permit tracking, library, public safety and geographic information systems.

The CIO and members of the department staff are members of the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC), a professional technology organization that serves to enhance local government services and effectiveness.

Enterprise Applications Team implements, maintains, and supports specialized enterprise applications and systems that support our business operations within the City of Mountain View. Here are some of the key services we will provide for 2023-2024:

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The GIS Team creates, maintains, and analyzes spatial data products to support decision-making by city representatives and sharing information with the public. Examples of key ongoing projects include:

Integrating pipe inspection CCTV recordings with city utility network data
Facilitating sending notifications to properties impacted by upcoming projects
Coordinating data collection to plan future maintenance of city resources
Supporting emergency management information sharing
Managing GIS-related technology infrastructure

Help Desk

IT helpdesk is a crucial resource for the City of Mountain View. The team provides technical assistance and guidance to the organization when they need it the most, providing a wide range of services to ensure that staff members can perform their work effectively and efficiently using a variety of hardware devices and software. Often the most visible team of the IT department, our helpdesk staff plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the City’s technology-related assets.
