Mountain View prides itself on leading the region in innovation, ideas, and a commitment to sustainability and resilience. The City envisions “a thriving community where we work together to leave the world better than we found it.”

Toward this goal, Mountain View has developed plans and initiatives to enhance and preserve the natural environment such as the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan, Zero Waste Plan, Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan, Electric Vehicle Action Plan and a Carbon Neutrality Resolution.

Park Electrification

The City has opened Evelyn Park, the first green space maintained exclusively with electric equipment. Discontinuing using gas-powered tools to care for the landscaping eliminates exhaust fumes and harmful emissions, lowers maintenance costs, and modernizes operations. The park features drought-resistant native landscaping for water-saving benefits and enhanced stormwater runoff elements to reduce water pollution. By prioritizing innovation and environmental resiliency, Evelyn Park is a model for future urban green spaces in Mountain View.

Recycled Benches

These unique benches showcase how recycled materials can help furnish and transform public spaces, and they demonstrate environmental progress through upcycling and zero-waste efforts. The bench at Charleston Park was painted by Hannah Pike, a local artist who volunteered to design and paint a mural on the bench.
