The Parks Division is always working on new projects to expand and improve the City of Mountain View’s community. While the City has an outstanding park system, its park and open space needs are changing and will continue to do so in response to changing circumstances. Monta Loma Recreation Area Renovation
Description: Park renovations on the School District site to possibly include play structure refurbishment and resilient surface replacement, potential addition of a shade structure, and/or replacement of the picnic tables and seating.
Current Status: The first public meeting took place on December 15, 2025 and identified residents' priorities for park renovation elements. A second public meeting took place on April 30, 2026, where two concepts were presented and the public provided feedback. A preferred concept, including an additional sand play area requested through public input, was presented to the Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees on June 11, 2026 and was approved by the Board. The detailed design phase will begin in the summer of 2026.

Pickleball Study, Design, Construction
Description: The project will evaluate City and potential private properties for design and layout for future new dedicated pickleball courts. Upon selection of a preferred site by Council, the project will commence the design phase.
Current Status:
- The City has negotiated a framework lease with the owners of two private parcels at 485 and 495 Clyde Avenue for the development of multiple pickleball courts and other future park amenities. The study of potential City sites (including Cuesta Park and the future San Rafael Park) is no longer proceeding, as the Clyde Avenue site will be moving forward as the selected site. The City will develop concept layouts for the Clyde Avenue sites and is planning to hold a community input meeting in fall 2026.

San Rafael Park, Design, and Construction
Description: Design and construct a 2.40-acre park off San Rafael Avenue.
Current Status: The Request for Proposals (RFP) for park design consultant services is anticipated to begin in fall 2026, with Council approval of the Professional Services Agreement expected in spring 2027, and the first community meeting in summer 2027. The design of the structure demolition and site-clearing bid package for the 939 San Rafael site is nearly complete, with demolition scheduled to begin in Q1 2027.
On June 9, 2026, Council approved purchase of an additional 0.86 acres of land at 975 Terra Bella Avenue, abutting the San Rafael park site. Funds have not yet been allocated for design/construction of this additional area, and it will be developed as a second phase.

Thompson Mini-Park
Description: Design and construct a 0.43-acre park at 538 Thompson Avenue and 2231 W Middlefield Road.
Current Status: The first public outreach meeting to gather input on the proposed park amenities was held on May 28, 2026. The next community meeting will be held in fall 2026. Council approval for concept design is anticipated in spring 2027.

Description: Design and construct a 0.39-acre park at 1720 Villa Street.
Current Status: Construction started fall 2025.
