On July 27, 2023, D/S Gamel Way LLC submitted a formal Planning application, and made subsequent submittal updates, for a Development Review Permit to construct a seven-story, 216-unit residential condominium development (including 20% affordable units) with two above-ground parking levels, replacing 29 existing rental units, a Heritage Tree Removal Permit to remove 12 Heritage trees and a Vesting Tentative Map for condominium purposes to create 216 residential units and one common lot. The 2.3-acre project site is located on the southwest and northwest corner of Gamel Way and Escuela Avenue in the R3-1 (Multiple Family Residential) zoning district.

This formal application follows a Preliminary SB 330 Application submitted by the applicant on April 6, 2023.

Note:  Senate Bill 1214 now requires the City to gain consent from the project architect to post the full set of project plans online. When the project architect has not given the City their consent, the City only has the right to post the project site plan and massing diagrams. SB 1214 aims to align public transparency with the California Copyright Act of 1976 by limiting the distribution of architectural plans, protected by copyright law, without the consent of the architect. The project architect provided consent for Formal Submittal 6 to be posted online.

• Street Vacation: TBD, City Council hearing – The project also includes a request for the City to vacate Gamel Way and related actions to allow the existing public street to be incorporated into the project site. The request for the street vacation and related actions is subject to separate hearing notices and action by the City Council. 

Meeting agenda, staff report and materials for the Council hearing on the street vacation will be posted at mountainview.legistar.com the Friday prior to the public hearing date and will include information on meeting location, format, and how to participate.
