 New 2025 Building Codes Coming!

The California Building Standards Commission released the new 2025 California Building Standards Code (State Code), which will become effective on January 1, 2026. The City Council approved local amendments to the State Code on September 9, 2025, which will also be effective on January 1, 2026. More information is available on the Building and Fire Codes webpage.

The Building Division provides code administration, permit review/plan check, and building and fire services to ensure a safe, accessible, and habitable community. The Division is responsible for the review of construction-related permits on private property for conformance to adopted California Building and Fire Codes and local City Codes. To deliver these services, the Division has three teams:

  • Building Inspections - Provides on-site building inspection services to ensure construction conforms to City and State codes, as well as aligns with issued permits.
  • Fire Protection - Ensures life safety conformance of fire systems in buildings to adopted City and State codes through permit review/plan checking and on-site inspection services.
  • Permit Center - Provides permit review/plan check services for all types of building and fire permits, including building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire sprinklers.
