Unveiling event in September 2026

Back in 1976, the City of Mountain View marked America’s 200th anniversary with a number of observances, which included burying a time capsule outside the Mountain View Public Library in Pioneer Park.

Fifty years later, the City will hold a special community event in September 2026 to unveil the contents of this bicentennial time capsule.

The City will announce the event’s date and time soon.

The unveiling ceremony will provide an opportunity to learn about the time capsule's history, view its 50-year-old contents, and celebrate this unique connection between Mountain View's past and present.

Following the event, the Library will display the contents of the 1976 time capsule for a limited time.

On July 4, 2026, the United States is celebrating its 250th anniversary, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
