  • GFOA Award for Popular Annual Financial Report
    The City of Mountain View received a prestigious award from the Government Finance Officers Association for its first-ever Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2024. This recognition honors governments that demonstrate excellence in communicating financial information in a clear, accessible, and engaging way.

    The City’s inaugural PAFR effectively translates complex financial data into a user-friendly format, enabling residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to better understand the City’s financial performance and overall fiscal health.

  • GFOA Award for Excellence in Financial Planning
    The City of Mountain View has once again been recognized for its commitment to transparency and excellence in Financial Reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the City the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.

    This marks the 35th consecutive year that the City has received this prestigious honor. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its staff.

  •  City of Mountain View Fire Department Retains Prestigious ISO Class 1 Rating
    The City of Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD) once again achieved the highest possible Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating—Class 1—from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). This marked the third time in MVFD’s history that it earned this prestigious designation. The MVFD remains the only fire department in Santa Clara County to hold a Class 1 rating.

    The ISO Class 1 rating is a nationally recognized benchmark of excellence in fire protection services. It reflects MVFD’s commitment to deploying state-of-the-art emergency response practices, maintaining robust infrastructure, and minimizing risk to the community. Importantly, this rating can also help lower fire insurance premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial properties across Mountain View, benefiting residents and local businesses.

  • Project of the Year – Environment/Parks ($5M–$25M):
    Rengstorff Park - All-Inclusive Playground (Magical Bridge)
    This innovative playground, which opened in January 2025, is designed to welcome individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Located between the Mountain View Community Center parking lot and tennis courts, it features inclusive play areas, a two-story wheelchair-accessible treehouse, and companion programming, fostering a sense of community and belonging. The project was a collaborative effort between the City of Mountain View, the Magical Bridge Foundation, and Santa Clara County.

  • Project of the Year – Structures ($25M–$75M):
    Rengstorff Park Aquatic Center Replacement
    Officially opened in March 2025, this state-of-the-art facility at 2073 Crisanto Ave. boasts a 25-yard by 25-meter lap pool with one-meter and three-meter diving boards, a recreation pool with zero-depth entry, a water slide, and interactive water features. Emphasizing sustainability, the center utilizes an all-electric hot water system powered by heat pumps and innovative solar panels that generate energy to heat nearly 500,000 gallons of pool water.

  • Project of the Year – Utilities ($5M–$25M):
    Water and Sanitary Sewer Main Replacement Crossing US 101 at Shoreline Boulevard
    This vital infrastructure project involved replacing aging water and sewer mains that cross US 101, enhancing the reliability and safety of Mountain View's utility services. By upgrading this critical infrastructure, the city ensures long-term service resilience and supports the community's current and future needs.

  • Star Awards: Public Affairs and New Monthly/Weekly Categories
    The City of Mountain View was awarded first place for the “State of the City 2025” video production in the Public Affairs category in the 2025 CAPIO | SCAN STAR Awards. The City also earned third place for the “A Minute with Mayor Kamei” monthly video series in the News Monthly/Weekly category. The STAR Awards are put on by the California Association of Public Information Officials and recognize excellence in government video programming in California. 

2024

  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

    In June 2024, the City of Mountain View received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for the 31st time.

    In order to receive this award, nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation had to be satisfied. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a:

    • Policy document,
    • Financial plan,
    • Operations guide, and
    • Communications device.

     
    The GFOA is a non-profit association that advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve, throughout the United States and Canada.

  • Project of the Year Award: El Camino Real and Castro Street Sewer Improvements Project
    In May 2024, the City of Mountain View received the Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association - Silicon Valley Chapter for the El Camino Real and Castro Street Sewer Improvements Project.

    The project replaced approximately 4,000 feet of sewer mains ranging in size from six – 10-inches in diameter.

    The project was selected as it represents effective and efficient public works processes, including starting with routine maintenance and inspections, identifying targeted repairs, utilizing the latest technology and trenchless repair methods, coordinating with other agencies, and communicating with the stakeholders.

  • Award of Distinction: Achievement of Excellence in Procurement
    The City of Mountain View’s Purchasing Division received the 2024 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award by the National Purchasing Institute.

     NPI’s prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award is earned by organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on stringent criteria.

    The continuously evolving criteria are designed to measure benchmarks for public procurement best practices such as commitment to innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

  • Metro Silicon Valley: Best of Silicon Valley 2024
    In November 2024, the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts received the top honor of gold for the “Best Performing Arts Center” in Metro Silicon Valley’s Best of 2024 awards. 

    The Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts is a premiere Silicon Valley performance venue for theatre, dance, music, standup comedy, festivals, film studio work and corporate events —owned and operated by the City of Mountain View.

  • Star Awards: Social Media Efforts and 2024 City Annual Update
    The City of Mountain View received the top prize for its Earth and Arbor Day Celebration video promo for Best Social Media Efforts (under $250,000) in the 2024 STAR Awards. The annual competition recognizes excellence in government channel programming in California and Nevada. The City also won second place for the “2024 City Annual Update” in the Best Public Affairs category.

  • 3CMA 2024 Savvy Awards: Overall Website
    The City of Mountain View is the City-County Communications and Marketing Association's 2024 Savvy Award winner in the Overall Website category for the MountainView.gov redesign project. The City was also a finalist in the Communication and Marketing Tools category for the Diamond Award, which is 3CMA’s highest and most prestigious recognition possible.

    The new City website debuted in May 2023, featuring a modern, mobile-responsive design with improved search functionality as well as dedicated subsites for Economic Development, the Mountain View Public Library and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

    The 3CMA Savvy Awards celebrate exceptional achievements in local government communications, public sector marketing and resident-government relations.

2023

  • City Receives Statewide Recognition for Communications
    May 2023 - The California Association of Public Information Officials recognized the City of Mountain with an Award of Distinction in the media event category at the 2023 CAPIO Annual Conference. 

    The statewide honors are for the Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, news conference that launched the City’s Elevate MV guaranteed basic income pilot program.

The Excellence in Public Information and Communications or EPIC Awards are presented annually by CAPIO to honor outstanding public agency information and communications programs.

  • City Earns Prestigious Budget Award for 30th Time
    February 2023 - The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the City of Mountain View's Fiscal Year 2022-23 Adopted Budget with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

    This is the 30th time that the City has earned this budget award. To receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

  • Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
    The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the ACFR.  With the FY 2021-22 award, the City has received this honor for 33 consecutive years.

  • National Recognition for City's Purchasing Section
    January 2023 - The City of Mountain View’s Purchasing section has been awarded the 2022 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement by the National Purchasing Institute, which is affiliated with the Institute for Supply Management. ISM is a communication link for more than 48,000 purchasing and supply management professionals, providing national and international leadership in purchasing and materials management.

    This prestigious award is earned by those organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on standardized criteria. The criteria are designed to measure commitment to innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

    The City of Mountain View is one of only 74 cities in the United States to receive the award.

  • Cal-ICMA Overall Excellence in Talent Award, 2020
    The City's Human Resources team was recognized with the Overall Excellence in Talent award from the California Local Government Management Collaborative. The Cal-ICMA award recognizes overall excellence in each of the three categories: attract/recruit, develop/retain, and workplace culture.
