Man arrested in connection to Selma Police Department case

A Fresno-area man has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a relative three years after he fled the area.

On Thursday, March 2 just after 12:30 pm, Mountain View police officers and detectives took 52-year-old Roosevelt Gomez De Leon of Selma into custody on San Rafael Avenue without incident. Detectives had been working with Selma PD to locate and apprehend De Leon after investigators had learned he might be in the area in December 2022.

De Leon was wanted in connection with a case that stemmed from a prior report of a sexual assault on a child that occurred in 2020. Following his arrest, De Leon was transported back to Selma where he was booked on suspicion of California Penal Code 288(a) Lewd or lascivious acts with a child, and Penal Code 288.7(b) Oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age.

“The Selma Police Department appreciates the collaborative efforts of the Mountain View Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of De Leon,” said Sgt. Cassy Fain. “We may be in different cities but the importance of justice for victims has no boundaries.”

“I am very grateful to the women and men of Selma PD for never giving up, and for working in partnership with us so that we may help them bring justice to the victim and their family,” said Captain Saul Jaeger.
