Man arrested in connection with hit-and-run February collision

A man has been arrested in connection with an assault on an elderly man following a collision in early February.

On Feb. 7 just after 2 pm, a patrol officer en route to another call came across a hit-and-run collision that had just occurred. Our officer pulled over and spoke with a female driver and a passenger – her husband – who stated that they had been stopped at Sylvan and Moorpark Way when they were rear-ended. The elderly male passenger got out of his car and went over to the other vehicle, a dark-colored Jeep, to exchange information.

The driver of the Jeep, later identified as 25-year-old East Palo Alto resident Elijah Scott, told the man that he could sit in his car while he retrieved the needed items. The man got in, but Scott soon said he couldn’t find his wallet or vehicle information. When the man tried to call us to help facilitate an information exchange, Scott reached over and tried to take the phone. The two men briefly struggled before Scott tried to drive away with the man still inside his car.

Scott eventually pulled over and pulled the victim out of his car before slamming him to the ground at least once, then drove away. He was last seen on the on-ramp for Highway 237.

Mountain View detectives began a follow-up investigation on the case and on Feb. 28, located and arrested Scott without incident in Mountain View.

He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, elder abuse, dissuading a witness and attempted robbery.
