MVPD looking to identify man who attacked jogger

Mountain View detectives are on the lookout for an individual who assaulted and made a racially-charged statement at a runner on the Stevens Creek Trail Wednesday morning.

On July 7 around 9:20 am, officers responded to a report of a battery on the Stevens Creek Trail bridge over Evelyn Avenue. When officers arrived, they met with a man who stated he was jogging southbound on the bridge when an unknown man, for unknown reasons, suddenly approached him and slapped him in the back of the head from behind.

The suspect then got in front of the victim, held his fist out and threatened to punch the man. He then made a racially charged statement at the victim, who is Asian. Finally, the suspect swung his bike at the victim, hitting him with the tire. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Officers extensively searched the area, but could not find the suspect. The suspect is described as a Black adult man in his 40s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall with a red jacket and a hood. He also has a black mountain bike.
