Northbound U.S. Highway 101 Ramp Metering Project

Starting in June 2021, the Caltrans ramp metering project will activate metering on the on-ramps along northbound US-101 between Fair Oaks Avenue in the City of Sunnyvale and Embarcadero Road/Oregon Expressway in the City of Palo Alto.

The ramp meters will be operational on weekdays during the morning peak period between 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and during the afternoon/evening peak period between 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. With the proposed activation of these ramp meters, this will extend the existing system of ramp meters on SCL101 from Gilroy to South San Francisco on NB US-101.

Caltrans, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara, City of Mountain View, City of Sunnyvale, and City of Palo Alto are working together to implement ramp metering along the study corridor.
