Officer pulls man safely from road after solo vehicle crash

This is not a 9 to 5 job – we see that every day.

We deploy to a range of calls every day, and at all times of the day and night. Last week was no exception.

Around 3:30 am on May 13, officers on our graveyard shift responded to a call about a solo vehicle crash on Central Expressway at Ravendale where the car was fully engulfed in flames.

Officer Herbek raced to the scene and as he got out of his vehicle, saw that a man was lying in the middle of the road with other cars driving past the crash scene.

Officer Herbek jumped the center divide and ran over to pull the man, who was seriously injured, out from the road and onto the shoulder of Central Expressway as other vehicles responded to assist.

The man, a 39-year-old Arizona resident, was subsequently taken to an area hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive his injuries. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

You can view the rescue from the video here.

We are thankful that the driver will recover, and we are grateful no one else was injured.

We are just a call away, Mountain View. We’re here if you need us.
