Beloved Police Chaplain Mother Champion has died

It is with a heavy heart that we share that our beloved police chaplain, Mother Champion, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mother Champion joined our department in 2017, and quickly became the heart and soul of our agency. She could walk into any room and fill it with laughter and love. Mother Champion made us all instantly feel like one of her own family members, feeding us, leaving little gifts and notes on our desks, and she never forgot a birthday. She was known for stopping by to simply talk with us and on good days and bad ones, let us know how much she cared for us and for our community.

We loved her. She was our beacon.

Mother Champion had over 25 years of Pastoral counseling and case management in nonprofit organizations and had been a Police Chaplain for East Palo Alto and Palo Alto Police Departments since 2004, where she received basic and advanced certification and training in law enforcement chaplaincy.

She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Please join us in extending condolences to Mother Champion’s family. We will never forget her incredible impact on our department.
