Auto burglary suspects arrested thanks to alert 9-1-1 callers

Two auto burglary suspects were arrested after alert witnesses quickly called us to report suspicious behavior, along with a package theft, minutes apart.

Around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, Mountain View dispatchers received a call about an auto burglary that had just occurred on the 300 block of Gladys Avenue. Witnesses were able to provide detailed descriptions of the suspects and suspect vehicle -- a white Nissan Rogue with Uber stickers in the front and back windows -- and officers immediately headed to the area to investigate.

Minutes later, another call came in with a witness reporting that he had just seen someone steal a package from a home on the 100 block of Savannah Loop. The description of the suspect and suspect car in that call matched the description from the Gladys Avenue call.

Again a few minutes after that, dispatchers received a third call from witnesses on the 300 block of Ellis Street, again reporting that the same suspect and same vehicle were seen leaving the area immediately after a reported auto burglary.
A detective in the area already assisting with the calls quickly spotted the suspect car and followed it onto southbound Highway 85. A second officer who had also responded to the calls was able to initiate a high-risk stop on Highway 85 just north of Homestead.

The suspects, identified as 33-year-old Mountain View resident Scott Wolfe and 28-year-old Mountain View resident Billie Mann, were subsequently detained without incident.

Wolfe and Mann were subsequently arrested for burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

“We cannot stress this enough – if you see something, say something,” said Lt. Frank St. Clair. “That is exactly what happened here, and it resulted in the arrest of two people who pursued crimes of opportunity for personal gain. We appreciate the alert callers that helped us to apprehend these suspects.”
