We are thrilled to introduce you to Officer Ruben Gonzalez, our new Community Outreach Officer, for the Mountain View Police Department.
Ruben is one of our longest-serving patrol officers, though you wouldn't know it by looking at him! He has proudly served our community for over 25 years, and he is very excited to be selected to fill the role that many of you came to know from when Officer Mike Taber helped define the Community Outreach Officer position -- which is funded through a grant -- nearly two years ago.
After Mike retired in December, we knew just the person to take over the role -- and Ruben knew it too.
"I believe in the Community Outreach Officer position and the impact it makes on the vulnerable population in Mountain View," he said. "I have always wanted to help the homeless and this is just another way I can help make their lives better and to make the community safe.”
As you can see from the photo, Ruben serves a variety of roles here at MVPD -- something that is not uncommon here. We have several officers who serve in multiple capacities to keep Mountain View safe. Ruben, for example, serves our SWAT team, is on our Bicycle Team, and also teaches our teams how to be safe on the street.
Please join us in welcoming Officer Gonzalez to his new position with MVPD. He and Sgt. Wahed Magee will continue to work with local organizations to conduct outreach and engagement efforts for unstably housed and homeless individuals, so if you see them out and about, please give them a wave hello!
