What do thieves look for when they target your car for burglary? How long does it take to commit an auto burglary?
These are just some of the questions that we hear from residents when it comes to auto burglaries in and around Mountain View.
So today, we are launching our 'Park Smart' campaign! In the flyer attached here, you will see where thieves go to potentially target vehicles, what they are looking for inside cars, and ways in which you can report these crimes to us.
While no guide is 100 percent foolproof, we hope that this reminder to take all valuables with you, and the campaign, will be widely shared with our residents and beyond. We want you to have as much knowledge as possible so that when you head out, and you leave your car, even for a few minutes, you remember to take your phone, wallet, purse and packages with you.
We continue to investigate each and every case that comes in, and our detectives -- both our Crime Suppression Unit and our Crimes Against Persons Unit -- work together when looking at these incidents.
And just in case, here is the best way to report a crime:
1. If you see it, call 911
2. If you feel threatened, call 911
3. If it requires an officer response, but not an immediate emergency, call 650-903-6344.
4. If you aren't a phone person and it isn't an emergency, you can file a report online at mvpd.gov
As always, if you have any questions, just let us know. Park Smart, everyone!
