MVPD needs your help identifying suspect in carjacking

We are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who last night fired a gunshot from his car and a short time later carjacked a man in the Rex Manor neighborhood.

Around 7:25 pm, our officers responded to Bailey Plaza Liquors, located on the 500 block of North Shoreline Boulevard, for reports of a shooting. While en route, officers were notified that an armed carjacking had just happened down the road from the store at Montecito and San Pierre avenues.

When we arrived, we learned that two men had gotten into an argument near the liquor store. At some point during the argument, one of the men, who has not been identified at this time, began to retreat into the store and the suspect, who was in his vehicle, fired one shot from a gun and sped away. Fortunately, no one was hit by the gunfire.

The suspect then drove westbound on Montecito Avenue and got out of his car, approaching a man who was in his Honda CRZ. The suspect forced that man out of the Honda and drove away from the area. We immediately began searching for the suspect after ensuring that the gentleman was ok.

Less than a half hour later, one of our officers found the stolen Honda, unoccupied, in a traffic lane on the 1500 block of California Street. Several units responded, and after an extensive search, we were unable to locate the suspect.

We are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who was described as a Hispanic adult man in his early to mid 30s, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall and roughly 180 pounds. He had stubble on his face and was described as having a tattoo of unknown design on the left side of his neck. He was last seen wearing a light-gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
