Man arrested in connection to downtown shooting

An East Bay man has been arrested in connection with the shooting that was reported in downtown Mountain View over the weekend.

On Saturday around 10 pm, MVPD officers responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Hope and Villa streets. We learned that while no one was hit by gunfire, officers did find at least one round in the area.

During the course of our investigation, we identified 26-year-old Ellis McMahan as the man who shot at least once at another man with whom he had gotten into an argument in the area of Hope and Villa streets around 10 pm on Saturday. McMahan. who drove away from the scene before we arrived, returned the next evening to the Mountain View Police Department and turned himself in. He was subsequently arrested for attempted homicide and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

The gun believed to have been involved in the crime was also recovered on Sunday. We will continue to update you on this case as information becomes available.
