MVPD seeks help identifying additional victims in indecent exposure case

MVPD detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying any more victims of a man who was exposing himself to women in Mountain View.

On Monday just after 11 am, a woman flagged down one of our officers at Grant Plaza and told him that a man in the north parking lot exposed himself to her as she was walking past his car. Our officer immediately began to search the area for the suspect,
later identified as 18-year-old Thomas Serna. Our officer quickly spotted a vehicle that matched the description of Serna's car -- a blue Mercedes C230 -- but as he got near to check the car, the driver of the vehicle quickly left out of the parking lot.

A short time later, we received reports of another indecent exposure incident at Castro and Mercy streets with the description of both the suspect and vehicle matching that of the first incident. But, the suspect was gone by the time our officers arrived.

Just after 12:30 pm, one of our sergeants had gone back to the Grant Plaza parking lot to search for additional clues when Serna's blue Mercedes again pulled into the parking lot. Our sergeant was able to determine that the vehicle was registered to a home in Mountain View and attempted to follow the Mercedes out of the parking lot, but Serna again drove away at a high rate of speed. Our sergeant sent officers to the Mountain View home where the vehicle was registered and a short time later, they were able to locate Serna near the home and arrest him without incident.

Our detectives are continuing to actively investigate this case, and we believe there are other victims in and around the area. We are asking anyone with additional information to contact Det. Marco Garcia at 650-903-6356 and reference case # 17-2270.
