The Library is located at between Church Street and Mercy Street.  There is off-street parking next to the building and underground parking accessible via Mercy Street.

How do I get a library card?

To get a Library card you can apply online in English or Spanish and then complete the registration at the Library.

Library cards are issued upon verification of current address and current photo ID.            

How can I look at my library record?

Go to https://encore.mountainview.gov and click on the Login button at the top right of the page. You will need your 10-digit Mountain View Public Library card number and your 4-digit password. The default password is the last 4 digits of the phone number you used when you registered for a Library account.

Can I update my personal information?

Yes, you can log in to your Library account and add or update your phone number and email address. Changes to your address must be made in person at the Library and new address verification is required at the time of request.

To update your personal information, log in to  your Library account. Click on My Account and then the Edit Account button.

How do I renew library items?

You can renew library items online at https://encore.mountainview.gov/iii/encore/myaccount?lang=eng&suite=cobalt.

You can also renew items by calling the 24-hour automated renewal line, (650) 940-1015. Note that the automated renewal line cannot renew items that are overdue. And please be sure to wait for confirmation of a successful renewal.

Santa Clara County Helping Hands

SCC Helping Hands is looking for people to match with local seniors in need. 

Volunteer responibilities include:

  • Picking up essentials like groceries and prescriptions
  • Delivering prepared meals from local restaurants
  • Calling your match every few days to check in
  • Bringing your match a book

Can I put a hold on an item?

Due to popular demand, we do allow holds to be placed on available items at the Library and the bookmobile, as well as holds on items checked out. However, the following items are not available for holds: Reference books, and Friends of the Library books and DVDs.

To place a hold on an item, go to the Library catalog, https://encore.mountainview.gov, search for the item, and click on the Request It button, and log in using your card number and 4-digit password.

Please wait until you actually receive a notice that the item is ready for pick up to come in for your item to give us time to place it on the hold shelf. Note that we charge a $1.00 fee for each hold item not picked up or canceled by its item specific expiration date, which is the pick-up notice. If you have any questions, please ask at the Customer Service desk or call (650) 903-6336.

Do you have Internet access?

The Library has many public computers for Internet use.  Patrons can use Internet computers up to three hours per day with a Mountain View Public Library card.

Can I get Internet access without a library card?

If you don't have a library card, you can ask for a short-term guest pass at any of the Library's public service desks.

Can I get Internet access with my laptop or mobile device?

The Library offers access to free Wi-Fi within the building. To access the Library's Wi-Fi, fo to your device's wireless settings and select cmvlib, and then accept the Library's Terms of Use which automatically displays on your default browser. The Library's Wi-Fi is public, open, and unsecured.

For laptops with an Ethernet card, the Library offers access to Ethenet ports built-in on some of our study carrels and tables. Please ask staff for assistance.  

Do you have meeting rooms?

The Library has 10 group study rooms located on the second floor of the Library, for small groups to use for purposes of group study, discussions, projects, and for tutoring or similar activities. Reservations are made online through https://mountainview.gov/studyrooms. You will need your Mountain View Public Library card number (account in good standing), the PIN, and a valid email address to book a group study room. How can I support the Library?

You can support the Library by joining the Friends of the Mountain View Library, making a tax-deductible donation to the Library, or by becoming a library volunteer.

Can I get an item off the bookmobile?

Library staff are able to look for items on the bookmobile when it is at the Library. Library staff are also able to place a hold on an item that is listed as available on the vehicle. Call (650) 903-6337 for assistance.
