Spanish Sessions

The Spanish Civic Leadership Academy is a ten-week program designed to expand residents' awareness of local government, City services, and increase civic engagement, leadership, and volunteering. Each session is presented by representatives of the different City Departments. Some presentations will be translated simultaneously.

La Academia de Liderazgo Cívico para Hispano parlantes es un programa de diez semanas diseñado para ampliar el conocimiento de los residentes sobre su gobierno local, los servicios que la Ciudad ofrece y aumentar el compromiso cívico, liderazgo y voluntariado. Cada sesión es presentada por representantes de los diferentes departamentos de la ciudad. Algunas presentaciones serán traducidas simultáneamente. Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how the Mountain View City Government works
  • Know about the services and programs that each department offers
  • Meet the members of the City Council and staff
  • Understand how Mountain View citizens can participate and get involved in issues that affect the community 
  • Know your neighbors
  • Be a model and source of resources for other members of the community
  • Connect with nonprofit organizations in Mountain View

Objectives of the Program:

  1. Educate and increase knowledge about the issues and functions of the City, services, activities
  2. Develop awareness of the role of residents in the city government
  3. Prepare individuals to serve in advisory groups and committees
  4. Explore opportunities to serve on nonprofit boards in the community.

Hours and location:

The 2019 Civic Leadership Academy will meet every Wednesday from 5:15-8:30 pm, from March 20 through May 22. The sessions will be held in localities of the City according to the subject that is covered. A light dinner will be offered and classes are free to the public. The space, limited to 25 participants, will be awarded to the first 25 participants who submit the application. The deadline to apply is February 22, 2018.
