City plans to host 2023 academy with sessions in person

The City of Mountain View will hold a Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy beginning in September. Registration opens in July.

Through the program, participants are encouraged to increase their civic engagement, leadership and volunteerism in the community. The Academy also prepares individuals to serve on City Council advisory bodies and committees.

La Ciudad en camino a ofrecer Academia para hispanohablantes de 2023 en persona

La ciudad de Mountain View ofrecerá la Academia de Liderazgo Cívico en español empezando en septiembre. La inscripción para la Academia de 2023 se inicia en julio.

A través de este programa, se motiva a los asistentes a incrementar su compromiso cívico y de voluntariado en la comunidad. La Academia también prepara a los integrantes para servir en los distintos organismos y comités consultivos del Concejo de la Ciudad.

Details about this year’s Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy:

  • Meets every week on Wednesdays from 5:30—8:30 p.m. (time is tentative)
  • Space is limited to 20 participants.
  • Application form will be available in English and Spanish starting in July.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how the Mountain View City Government works
  • Know about the services and programs that each department offers
  • Meet the members of the City Council and staff
  • Understand how Mountain View citizens can participate and get involved in issues that affect the community 
  • Know your neighbors
  • Be a model and source of resources for other members of the community
  • Connect with nonprofit organizations in Mountain View

Objectives of the program:

  1. Educate and increase knowledge about the issues and functions of the City, services, activities
  2. Develop awareness of the role of residents in the city government
  3. Prepare individuals to serve in advisory groups and committees
  4. Explore opportunities to serve on nonprofit boards in the community. 

More information:

This is the fifth year that the City is hosting the Academy. The program launched in 2017 with over 130 participants completing the program to date. Each session is led by staff from City departments and includes information on each department’s core service function, major activities, programs and project overview. The program also features interactive exercises and group discussion.
