FACILITIES AND AMENITIES

RENGSTORFF HOUSE

The Rengstorff House, located at 3070 N. Shoreline Boulevard, is located within Shoreline at Mountain View, a 750-acre wildlife and recreation area on the edge of the San Francisco Bay.

Enter the grounds of the historic site, and you will immediately sense the unique character as well as the simple elegance of the place. Now available for rent every day of the week except during public tour hours, the facility offers classic Victorian Italianate architecture surrounded by an outdoor, garden setting.

Standout features:

The Rengstorff House features three, distinct lawn areas, many with adjoining brick patios. In addition, on-site is an idyllic, restored windmill and water tower structure that serves as a picturesque location for “first look” event images. Everywhere you look, it seems, photo opportunities abound!

Adjacent to the Rengstorff House is a charming lakeside area, perfect for bridal photos. In addition, the facility is located within a wildlife and recreation area, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Inside, the house features ornate brass chandeliers, Victorian plaster rosettes, push-button light switches, Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper designs, as well as Eastlake furniture appropriate to the time. While the majority of your event typically occurs outdoors, guests will enjoy perusing indoors to take a brief step back in time. Our prime dates often book up to a year or more in advance.

Rental availability and equipment basics:

The Rengstorff House is available for rent for up to 150 guests during our non-public tour times, including weekends Friday/Saturday anytime or Sundays after 4:30 p.m., as well as weekdays anytime Monday/Thursday or Tuesdays/Wednesdays beginning at 5 p.m.

All rentals must end no later than 11 p.m., for departure by midnight, and rentals are typically delivered in advance. We offer a helpful vendor list for your ease in planning.

Meeting rental is for a maximum of 18-20 guests, and includes use of the Dining Room and kitchen. We can provide a video screen, although we do ask that you bring your own audio/visual equipment.

To reserve the historic Rengstorff House, please view our informational packet including Frequently Asked Questions, and then learn more about available rules/regulations, helpful tools for event planning, as well as our rental application form by clicking on the complete Rental Packet here. We request that pages 4-10 be completed in order to officially reserve a date.

Docent led Tours

Beginning Saturday, January 8, the Rengstorff House is temporarily closed to the public due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases until further notice. Docent-led tours are available three days a week: Tuesdays/Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tours are free to members of the general public. Donations are accepted. All tours are aligned with local and state public health guidelines.

Enter the West Patio Door of the Rengstorff House during open house times, and you can inquire further about the history of the Rengstorff family; the restoration project; as well as imagine early Mountain View pioneers who lived circa 1867 when the house was originally constructed in the area. Tours generally last approximately 30 minutes, but can generally be tailored to meet your needs. During weekday open house times, you may arrive at any time so as to begin a tour. On Saturdays, look for a clock in the window indicating the next tour start time, and enjoy the garden until the next tour begins.

As an alternative, the City of Mountain View Dog Park is located just outside Shoreline’s main entrance gate, at the intersection of Shoreline Boulevard and Crittenden Lane. The Dog Park is open daily from 6:00 a.m. until half an hour after sunset. Dogs may run off of their leash and socialize with other dogs. Please respect all rules and regulations governing the City of Mountain View Dog Park. If you observe a dog with aggressive and/or unwanted behavior, calmly speak to its owner about the problem. If the problem persists, remove yourself from the situation and call the Shoreline on-duty Ranger at 650-930-6655. In the event of an emergency, call 911. A maximum of three dogs per handler.

KITE LOT

The Kite Lot is a large expanse of open space, an ideal location for flying kites from the beginner’s level to more advanced multi-colored stunt kites. To ensure your own safety at the kite lot area, please be aware of air space regulations administered by the Federal Aviation Administration and the State Aeronautic Act. All kites must be flown at a maximum height of 150’ and may not weigh more than five pounds. Kites should not be flown in the rain, over T.V. or radio antennas or near electric power lines. Never retrieve a kite caught on a power line, telephone pole or light pole. Stunt or dual-line kite flying is allowed at the kite lot, however "combat" flying between kites is not permitted.

If you are organizing an event of more than 40 kite-flying participants, please contact the Shoreline At Mountain View office at 650-903-6392 and complete a General Use Permit so that we may assist you in ensuring adequate safety and logistics for your event. Kite flying is not permitted in other areas of Shoreline At Mountain View.
