Gym Rentals

The Mountain View Sports Pavilion, located at 1185 Castro Street, and the Whisman Sports Center, located at 1500 Middlefield Road, are available for group or individual rental for sports activities.  Rental applications are accepted four times per year on the second Friday of November (for January-March use), February (for April-June use), May (for July–September use), and August (for October-December use).

The gyms are available for rental during specified time slots Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The main gym facility can accommodate up to two basketball or volleyball groups.  The auxiliary room can be used for dance and exercise activities, such as karate or aerobics, and is equipped with a ballet bar and mirrors.

Rental Application

Applications for the Summer rental period, July - September 2018, will be accepted from 8:30 a.m.  on Monday, May 7, 2018 through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018. Gyms will be closed on all City Holidays and during School Events. The application for the Summer rental period is below:

Selection Process

Applicants must submit all of the following in order to be considered for a rental permit:

  • Complete application form (see reverse); and
  • Proof of residency (preprinted check, driver’s license or current utility bill); or
  • Proof of Mountain View Business (submit current business license); and,
  • Submit a $500 deposit (fees accepted by applicant or business named on application only); and,
  • Submit a non-refundable $25.00 Application Fee

Due to high demand and limited availability, a lottery drawing will be held of all completed applications received by the deadline. Applicants will be notified by e-mail within 4-10 business days of the application deadline if a rental permit has been assigned with instructions in order to complete the permit process.  If your application is selected in the lottery process, the deposit of $500 and $25 application fee will immediately be charged. Rental information and permit will follow soon after via e-mail. Applicants not assigned a rental permit after the initial lottery drawing will automatically be placed on a waitlist and contacted within 10-15 business days of application deadline.  This application process does not guarantee that a permit will be issued.  Only one application per person or organization will be processed.

Mountain View residents will have first priority followed by Mountain View businesses and then all other interested groups who turn in a complete application and deposit will be eligible for the lottery drawing.  All applicants must be over 18 years of age.  Incomplete applications and multiple applications for duplicate time slots may be disqualified.
If your group’s application has been selected in the lottery but you would like to cancel your rental, there will be a $50 Cancellation Fee. All cancellation requests must be sent 10 business days prior to the first day of the rental in a letter format or via e-mail.

Completed applications, proof of residency or business license, deposit and application fee must be submitted on the application dates ONLY, by either: fax to (650) 962 1069; or, by mail (postmark NOT accepted) to the City of Mountain View, Recreation Division, 201 South Rengstorff Avenue, P.O. Box 7540, Mountain View, California, 94039-7540; or, in person in order to be included in the lottery drawing. Late applications will automatically be placed on the waitlist.
