A wonderful 81 patrons attended the inaugural Autism/Sensory Friendly performance held at MCVPA's SecondStage on January 20, 2018 and 100% of the 10 attendees who responded to a custom audience survey agreed the offering was valuable and would definitely attend another sensory friendly performance at the MVCPA. 60% of attendees answering the survey said they had NOT attended a sensory friendly performance before, further emphasizing that we are providing an important offering for our community.
On November 3, 2018 Peninsula Youth Theatre (PYT) in cooperation with The Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (MVCPA) presented a second performance arranged specifically for the Autistic and Sensory Sensitive Community of their play Junie B Jones is NOT a Crook!. A third sensory friendly offering, a performance of PYT's Babe the Sheep Pig, took place February 16, 2019. These performances offered guests and families living with autism or other special needs an opportunity to enjoy "Stories on Stage" in a safe and accepting environment. For each sensory friendly performance, an inclusive space is created with special considerations such as scaled-down production elements (lights, sound, etc.), extra wheelchair accommodations, and a quiet zone outside the performance space. The Center has assembled a Pre-Visit Guide that provides visuals to help familiarize patrons with the spaces and experiences they will encounter while attending this performance.
2019 Autism/Sensory Friendly performances were generously sponsored by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders

Priority for sponsorship will be given to previous sponsors of co-productions and those seeking a Double or Single Title Sponsorship. Each show CAN have up to 3 Single Show supporters AND a Title Sponsor, though after a Title Sponsor is found, no other sponsorships will be sought for that performance.
Purpose:
MVCPA Co-Productions are designed to help our clients increase offerings to specific under-served audiences that require special accommodation. For instance, the first MVCPA Co-Productions targeted people living on the autism spectrum and their families. This policy is established to make this process uniform for any clients partnering with MVCPA with a specific under-served audience in mind.
Eligibility:
Priority for a co-production will be given to MVCPA Home Companies and any clients who have previously partnered with MVCPA for a co-production. Additional consideration will be given to clients on a first come, first served basis with MVCPA venue and staffing availability, as will available funds (should sponsorship not be readily available) also factoring into the selection process. All co-production partnerships are subject to the approval of the Community Services Director or their designee. In the case of co-production performances that are part of a larger run, the co-production performance(s) must be a standalone arrangement and requires a separate contract from the non-targeted performances of the same title/run. The co-production pricing arrangements will only apply to target audience-designated performances.
Performance Fee Structure:
MVCPA will absorb/waive the performance day fee associated with the designated performance(s) and up to two extra hours of tech rehearsal to adjust lighting or sound cues. MVCPA will recover hard costs for labor and direct out-of-pocket costs (exclusive of any special equipment fees like dance flooring) for the designated performance(s) from any ticket proceeds and sponsorship(s) obtained through MVCPA efforts. After those costs are covered, MVCPA will retain 50% of the remaining ticket proceeds from that performance (as well as any remaining sponsorship money) up to a maximum that is equal to the standard base fee for a ticketed performance plus the added tech rehearsal time. All proceeds above that base fee will revert to the client organization. This 50% split does NOT apply to the standard Facility Use Fee, which will be retained by the City of Mountain View.
Payment:
Any ticket revenue money is paid out at the conclusion of the event. Any portion of sponsorship monies may be paid in a separate check and may be delayed up to 30 days from close of event.
