In 2017, Prometheus Real Estate Group submitted an application for a Planned Community Permit to construct a new apartment project located at 1696-1758 Villa Street that includes 226-apartment units with a two-level underground parking garage, dedication of a 0.4-acre public park, and a Heritage Tree Removal Permit to remove 26 Heritage trees on a 3.29-acre project site. The project also includes: a General Plan Map Amendment from Medium-Density and Low-Density Residential to High-Density Residential; a Zoning Map Amendment from R3-2 (Multiple-Family Residential) and R1 (Single-Family Residential) districts to the P-17 (Villa-Mariposa) Precise Plan; and an Amendment to the P-17 (Villa-Mariposa) Precise Plan. An Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was prepared for the project and certified by the City Council.
On June 4, 2019, the City Council approved the 1720 Villa Street Residential Project (see Staff Report - Item 6.2):
Project construction began in July 2020 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2022.
