COVID-19 Shelter in Place Order May 18, 2020

A new order by the Public Health Officer for Santa Clara County was provided on May 18, 2020 and shall become effective after 12:01 a.m. on May 22, 2020 and will continue to be in effect until it is rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the Health Officer.

The April 29, 2020 order by the Public Health Officer Directive for Santa Clara County shall become effective at 11:59 p.m. on May 3, 2020 and will continue to be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on May 21, 2020.  For clarification on the April 29, 2020 order please visit the County website at: COVID-19 FAQ's from Santa Clara County

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

 City Hall will remain closed for normal walk-in business until after May 31, 2020.

Under the new Order, all construction projects can resume, provided they comply with the Construction Protocols issued as part of the Order. (These protocols replace the COVID-19 Construction Field Safety Guidelines applicable to the Prior Order).

Building and Fire Inspections: 

Building Inspections: We are now accepting new requests for building inspection. Inspections can be scheduled by calling 650-903-6313.  Inspection must be requested by 3PM, on a business day the day prior to the requested inspection date.

Fire Inspections: We are now accepting new requests for fire inspection. Inspections can be scheduled by calling 650-903-6313. Inspections are scheduled as they are available.  

Your inspector will be verifying that both the County and City Safety Protocol is being adhered to, prior to conducting the inspection. It is important to note that if safety protocol is not being met will be unable to conduct your inspection and you will be required to reschedule. Please review City Safety Protocol prior to scheduling your inspection. 

Building Plan Check: Due to COVID-19 and new processes, all plan check will be extended two weeks until further notice.

All Building Projects: All projects are eligible for plan check.

  • New submittals are first required to obtain a Project Number through our new E-Permit Plan Check Submittal portal.  After acquiring your project number you will need to schedule a virtual appointment via our Appointment Link; a staff member will contact you 24 hours prior to your virtual appointment with specific directions on how to proceed. 
  • Re-submittals are required to create a virtual appointment via our  Appointment Link; a staff member will contact you 24 hours prior to your appointment with specific directions on how to proceed.  Please be prepared to provide your name, contact number, project number, address and scope of work.
  •  One-Stop Commercial T.I.'s can be submitted electronically, turnaround time will be one week. You are first required to obtain a Project Number through our new E-Permit Plan Check Submittal portal.  After acquiring your project number you will need to schedule a virtual appointment via our Appointment Link; a staff member will contact you 24 hours prior to your appointment with specific directions on how to proceed. Please keep in mind that all occupancies will need Planning approval prior to obtaining a building permit, if you have not already obtained approval from Planning please call 650-903-6306.
  •  Fast Track Submittals can be submitted electronically, turnaround time will be two weeks. You are first required to obtain a Project Number through our new E-Permit Plan Check Submittal portal.  After acquiring your project number you will need to schedule a virtual appointment via our Appointment Link; a staff member will contact you 24 hours prior to your appointment with specific directions on how to proceed. Please keep in mind that all occupancies will need Planning approval prior to obtaining a building permit, if you have not already obtained approval from Planning please call 650-903-6306.
  • Deferred Submittals for Issued Projects: Approved projects that need their deferred package may do so by scheduling an appointment on-line, two business days from the date you schedule it.  The permit technician will contact you to day prior to your virtual appointment with specific directions.  Turnaround time for deferred submittal is two weeks.

All Fire Systems continue to be available for electronic plan check:

One-Stop/Over-the-Counter Plan Check will not resume at reopen. Please plan to submit your plans in to the regular or Fast Track Process as will not resume this service until a later date. 

Walk-in Counter Service: No walk-in counter service available at this time.

The City of Mountain View Building Division helps to ensure health, safety and welfare of the citizens, property owners and visitors of the City of Mountain View.

The Building Division is responsible for plan review of all new construction, additions, remodels, fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and suppressions systems for both commercial and residential properties and construction inspection services for all projects including building, fire, electrical, plumbing and mechanical installations (except County, State & Federal Buildings).
