On Saturday, September 10, at 4:14 p.m., Mountain View Communications received a 911 call from a reporting party stating flames were coming out of a recreational vehicle parked at the intersection of Alta Avenue and Plymouth Street.

Mountain View Fire units were dispatched at 4:15 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 4:21 p.m. They arrived to find an active fire coming from an RV. Firefighters initiated a fire attack with water lines pre-connected to the fire engine and extinguished the flames before they could spread.

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the RV to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. Traffic was closed at the intersection of Alta Avenue and Plymouth Street while firefighters conducted fire attack and salvage operations.

The “all clear” was given at 4:40 p.m., meaning everyone was accounted for and the fire was completely extinguished. Traffic reopened in both directions of Alta Avenue and Plymouth Street. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The estimated damage to the contents and vehicle is $20,000.

The Mountain View Firefighters charity, Random Acts, provided the sole occupant of the fire a four-night stay at the County Inn on Leong Drive. The Occupant Services Officers provided the affected citizen with a $250 gift card from the Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency program.

The American Red Cross Duty Officer contacted the citizen this evening. The Duty Officer will assess his needs and provide him with available resources.
