On Friday, June 3 at 4:51 a.m., Mountain View Communications received a fire alarm from El Camino Hospital at 2500 Grant Road.
Units were dispatched at 4:51 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 4:56 a.m. Units arrived to find the hospital staff had extinguished a computer monitor in the MRI room with a dry chemical fire extinguisher.
The smoke and dust from the extinguisher posed no threat to the patients or hospital staff. Firefighters and hospital facilities staff used fans to clear the smoke from the affected area.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Fire units turned the building back over to the hospital facilities staff.
The cause of the fire is likely due to an overheated and malfunctioning computer monitor. The monitor appeared to be in a well-ventilated location in the MRI room prior to the fire. No structural damage to the walls, ceiling, or surrounding area occurred as a result of the fire.
