(Mountain View, Calif.)— Registration is now open for Spanish-speaking residents of Mountain View to participation in the Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy (Academia de Liderazgo Cívico en Español). The popular program is returning for the third year with an expanded curriculum that will provide an opportunity to learn how to serve the community through local nonprofit boards in addition to City boards and commissions. Space is limited and registration closes on February 22.
The free Academy, which is now a ten-week program, is designed to improve understanding of government and City services. It also encourages participants to increase their civic engagement, leadership and volunteerism in our community and prepares individuals to serve on Council Advisory Bodies and Committees and nonprofits around Mountain View. The Academy will include sessions led by representatives from various City of Mountain View departments to explain their services, an opportunity to meet City Council members and engage in discussions about how residents can become involved in issues that affect the community.
Sessions will be every Wednesday from 5:15—8:30 p.m. starting March 20 through May 22 at various City facilities according to subject. A light meal will be offered and childcare will be provided by the Recreation Department. For more information and to apply to the program, visit the City website at www.MountainView.gov/Civico, or call the Multilingual Community Outreach Program (MCOP) at (650) 903-6145.
