Sister Cities International promotes peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation by focusing on sustainable development, youth and education, humanitarian assistance, arts and culture. Based on President Eisenhower’s 1956 People-to-People Program, Sister Cities promotes the friendship of people, regardless of race, creed, or color. SCI offers communities the opportunity to participate in a fascinating and rewarding international program that enables people to proactively build world peace through dialogue and understanding.
Started in 1974, the Sister City Affiliation of Mountain View is an independent non-profit governed by a board of directors whose primary goal is to promote international understanding and acceptance. The organization has two Sister Cities, Iwata, Japan and Hasselt, Belgium and facilitates a variety of events and programs throughout the year.
