Mountain View, CA – In 2022, a Mountain View patrol officer was conducting a traffic stop when the then 33-year-old Stockton resident, Jeffery Choy, discharged a firearm, striking the officer and causing bodily injury.  

Choy fled the scene and subsequently crashed his vehicle. In partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service and Mountain View detectives, Choy was arrested the following day. He was brought back to Santa Clara County and was booked on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer.

After being charged by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Choy was found guilty of attempted murder of a police officer. Police Chief Mike Canfield issued the following statement: “Today, our thoughts remain with our officer, our staff, and our community. Incidents like this remind us all of the risks our officers face in serving our community. We respect the outcome of the judicial process and the jury's role in carefully weighing the evidence presented. We believe the process worked as intended, and the jury reached its decision based on the evidence presented. On behalf of the MVPD, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to our community for their support and to District Attorney Rosen and Deputy District Attorney McKeown for their dedication and hard work in seeking justice for our officer.”
