Mountain View Sister City Affiliation was incorporated in 1974. The Sister City Affiliation of Mountain View is an independent non-profit governed by a Board of Directors. We very much appreciate all the support given to the Organization by the City of Mountain View.
The main goal of the affiliation is to promote international understanding through citizens and the organizations between the cities of Iwata, Japan and Hasselt, Belgium and the City of Mountain View.
We seek to achieve that goal by the interchange of information, ideas, culture, economic and social relations. The affiliation is very proud that every year since the Sister City relationships were developed we have had an Annual Student Exchange Program.
The foundation of the program is based on the People-to-People Program initiated in 1956 by President Eisenhower promoting the friendship of people, regardless of race creed or color. The objective was to offer each community, their citizens, businesses and organizations the opportunity to participate in a fascinating and rewarding international program. This type of program was meant to enable people to become members of families that would be a part of the constructive process of building world peace.
The Sister Cities International program promotes peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation by focusing on sustainable development, youth and education, humanitarian assistance, arts and culture.
