Status
The timeline for completion of the Pedestrian Master Plan (PMP) is dependent on the City's General Plan 2030. At this time, it is anticipated the draft PMP will be available in spring 2012. The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (B/PAC) will provide input on the proposed recommendations for the draft PMP at its November 16, 2011 meeting. The B/PAC comments will be reviewed by the Council Transportation Committee in early 2012. The CTC will review the draft PMP and make recommendations to the City Council in spring 2012. Notices for the public meetings will be posted and sent to people on the interested parties list.
Background
The Pedestrian Master Plan (PMP) is a comprehensive City-wide policy document with pedestrian-friendly policies and guidelines to improve access to transit and connect the sidewalk network in employment areas such as the North Bayshore Area and improve access to neighborhood retail areas. To ensure the PMP meets the needs of all residents, the City is coordinating pedestrian-related comments and policies through the City's General Plan 2030 public outreach process. Work began on the preparation of the PMP in summer 2009. Neighborhood meetings and a joint meeting of the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Parks and Recreation Commission were completed in late 2009.
Council Environmental Sustainability Committee
In October 2008, the City Council accepted the final report of the Environmental Sustainability Task Force containing 89 recommendations outlining policies, strategies and actions to conserve resources and reduce the community's carbon footprint. Then Mayor Tom Means appointed the three-member Council Environmental Sustainability Committee (Margaret Abe-Koga, Ronit Bryant and Chair Jac Siegel) to analyze and prioritize the recommendations. After a series of meetings in late 2008 and early 2009, the Council approved the 2008-2011 "Environmental Sustainability Action Plan" and recommended the preparation of a Pedestrian Master Plan as part of the 2009-10 actions.
Past Events
In summer 2009, community members used an interactive map to show us exactly where they struggle to cross the road, what were their favorite routes to the park with the kids, or what would make their grocery shopping trip easier.
Residents also submitted emails on improving walking in Mountain View to helen.kim@mountainview.gov.
Finally, participants printed out and drew on maps and returned them to City Hall. They chose from the following list to download maps of the neighborhoods that interested them, in either letter size or 11x17.
Central Neighborhoods (Letter) Central Neighborhoods (11x17) Grant Road-Sylvan Park (Letter) Grant Road-Sylvan Park (11x17) Miramonte-Springer Road (Letter) Miramonte-Springer Road (11x17) Moffett-Whisman Road (Letter) Moffett-Whisman Road (11x17) Monta Loma-Farley-Rock Street (Letter) Monta Loma-Farley-Rock Street (11x17) North Bayshore (Letter) North Bayshore (11x17) San Antonio-Rengstorff (Letter) San Antonio-Rengstorff (11x17)
