UPDATED: Fatal Car Accident- California Street at Escuela Avenue |

UPDATED 6/22/12: UPDATE 6/22/12: The victim of yesterday's car accident was William Ware,
a 50-year-old male from Mountain View. He appears to have been
standing at or close to the bus stop at the time if the collision.
The driver's name is not being released at this time, but he is a
21-year-old male from Mountain View. It does not appear that he was
under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He remained at the scene and
cooperated with police.
Traffic accident investigations involving fatalities are complex and
lengthy investigations. The cause of the collision and any contributing
or associated factors will not be know until the conclusion of the
investigation. We are working closely with the District Attorney's
officer to determine if any charges against the driver are appropriate.
6/21/12: This morning at 9:29 a.m., Mountain View Communications received multiple calls of a car who had hit a pedestrian on the corner of California Street at Escuela Avenue. Upon arrival of emergency personnel it was declared that the pedestrian who had been hit was deceased, and the driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries. Currently traffic is closed on California Street between Escuela Avenue and Mariposa Avenue and on Escuela Avenue between California Street and Gamel Way while the accident is being investigated. The street closures are expected to last approximately 4 hours.
