In June 2012, the City completed an extension of the Permanente Creek Trail over Highway 101 to Old Middlefield Way by constructing a bridge over Highway 101 and a tunnel under Old Middlefield Way. The extension of the Permanente Creek Trail will provide the public access from the Bay Trail within Shoreline at Mountain View to the south side of Highway 101. This extension provides an important pedestrian and bicycle connection between residential neighborhoods on the south side of Highway 101 with businesses and recreational facilities on the north side of the freeway.
The project was dedicated at a formal ceremony on June 12, 2012. The program for the ceremony can be viewed by clicking here. Additional project facts can be viewed by clicking here.
Completion of the project provides the opportunity to extend the trail further south up to West Middlefield Road in the future. A project is currently in design to extend the trail from Old Middlefield Way to Rock street. Construction of that project is anticipated to occur by the end of 2013. Another project is studying improved crossings at Charleston Road and Amphitheatre Parkway and potentially extending the trail from Rock Street to Middlefield Road. That study was completed in early 2013.
