Recycling & Garbage for Businesses

Businesses account for 64% of Mountain View's total waste stream. Therefore, the business community is vitally important to achieving our environmental goals to divert at least 50 percent of waste from the landfill by reducing waste, recycling, reuse, and composting methods.

Free Recycling

The City of Mountain View offers free recycling to businesses, low-cost small business household hazardous waste disposal, and competitive debris and recycling box rates for construction and demolition activities. We also offer technical assistance to businesses to implement recycling programs. For a detailed list of what's recyclable, click here.

Green Business Certification

Businesses can apply to become a certified Green Business through our partnership with the County of Santa Clara's Green Business Program. Your business will save money on utilities, gain a marketing advantage with consumers, and improve business operations with innovative resource conservation practices. Small Business Hazardous Waste Disposal

Does your business have batteries, old paint, solvents, motor oil or other chemicals around the building? If your business generates less than 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month, you may be able to use the Santa Clara County Small Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Program. The fees associated with this program are determined by the type and quantity of the materials to be collected. It's simple and inexpensive to use.

Exclusive Hauler and Other Recycling Haulers

The City of Mountain View has an exclusive hauler for garbage and recycling, including debris boxes. Please contact Foothill Disposal Company (650-967-3034) to set up services.

General contractors, roofers and landscapers are permitted to self-haul wastes and recycling from job sites provided: (a) the hauling is an incidental part of their overall services and (b) the hauling does not involve sub-contracting for roll-off box, debris box, or recycling box services. If the contractor, roofer or landscaper needs to sub-contract hauling services, they must use Foothill Disposal (650-967-3034), the only hauler approved by the City.
