Neighborhood Watch provides extra eyes and ears to protect our neighborhoods. Working together, police officers and community members form a powerful crime-prevention team dedicated to making our neighborhoods safer.
Neighborhood Watch is a national program, started in the 1970s, based on the principle of neighbors looking out for each other. The program is an important communication link between the police department and members of the community. It's also a great way for us to get to know each other!
Watches usually meet every six months to discuss current crime trends and exchange information with officers responsible for the neighborhood. Officers may make crime prevention presentations on topics such as home security or drug awareness.
After meetings, attending officers relay community members' concerns and information to all beat officers. This can lead to:- Increased enforcement
- Patrol drive-bys
- Surveillance
- Research or data gathering
- Meeting with non-watch residents
- Suspect interviews or arrests
Mountain View has numerous, well-established Neighborhood Watches, in a variety of neighborhood types, including apartments. Although there are many Watches, there are still areas in the city that are missing out. All it takes is one person to get a Neighborhood Watch started. Contact us today, if you're interested in getting involved.
