Code Enforcement

The Mountain View City Council develops regulations, known as City Code, designed to maintain a healthy, safe and clean environment, and a high quality-of-life for residents and people doing business in Mountain View.

Examples include:
  • Housing permits
  • Electrical specifications
  • Massage parlors
  • Fire prevention
  • Neighborhood preservation
  • Animals
  • Trees, shrubs and plants
Enforced by the Police Department
A limited subset of these regulations are enforced by the police department: Other city codes are enforced by the City Code Enforcement unit, the Fire Department, Community Development and Palo Alto Animal Control (on contract to Mountain View).
Palo Alto Animal Control Enforces
Loose dogs
Dog licenses & vaccinations
Dead or injured animals
(650/496-5971)

Note: City Code Enforcement handles "too many animals" & unsanitary conditions.
