Media Relations

MVPD recognizes the importance of establishing a positive working relationship with the media. We believe that citizens are entitled to receive accurate, timely and newsworthy information from the media. With this in mind, we're committed to creating a bond of partnership and trust with members of the media.

Significant Incidents
Our Public Information Officer (PIO) will issue a press release with initial details of an incident. Press releases are routinely faxed to all news outlets, including wire services. They're also posted here on our Web site. If you don't receive a press release, read it here or contact Police Records (650/903-6344, 24x7) for a FAX copy. If additional materials, such as photographs or sketches, are not available on the Web, contact the PIO for an electronic version or FAX copy, or come to police department front counter (7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week).

Media Hotline
If an incident occurs but there does not appear to be a press release, please call the Media Hotline (650/903-6195) (for media only). We keep the outgoing voice message current with significant events, and usually update it multiple times during/after an incident. You can also leave messages for the PIO, as the hotline is checked routinely. Often we leave additional contact information for the PIO or other persons who are available to speak to the media.

Incident Scene Access
When you arrive at an incident scene, please ask immediately for the PIO. If he is not on scene, then the highest-ranking police supervisor will meet with you, as time permits. S/he will provide initial details until the PIO arrives. We will do everything we can to provide media access and vantage points for photographs. For large-scale incidents, we will identify a media area for interviews and information.

Press Releases
The following press releases are considered public information, pursuant to CA Government Code 6254(F). Please direct any questions or comments to Liz Wylie • 650/903-6195.
