There are many sub-genres within the mystery field - historicals, amateur sleuths, police procedurals, for example. One of the newer ones is culinary mysteries. Hard-core mystery readers, and some writers, don't consider them "mysteries" at all. However, culinary mysteries, while considered "cozies," are proving very popular with readers. Most are series but there are a few stand-alone anthologies that appear at the end of this list. Titles are usually puns and the cover art, clever and fun.

Carl, JoAnna - Lee McKinney, chocolatier

Lee is a 6 foot tall Texas beauty queen working at her Aunt Nettie's chocolate shop in Warner Pier, a Michigan resort town on the lake.Lee tends to get tongue-tied resulting in malapropisms.


Davidson, Diane Mott - Goldy Bear Schultz, caterer

The most popular of culinary mystery authors, Davidson was the first big success.Goldy struggles to keep her catering business going and always seems to be getting involved with murder.She operates in Aspen Meadow, Colorado, near Denver.Recipes included.


Farmer, Jerrilyn - Madeline Bean, caterer/party planner

Madeline runs her business in Hollywood, giving her lots of venues for trouble.


Fluke, Joanne - Hannah Swenson, bakery owner

Red-haired Hannah is the owner of the Cookie Jar, a bakery in Lake Eden, a small town in Minnesota.She mixes cookie baking with amateur sleuthing.Recipes included.


King, Peter - “Gourmet Detective”, a food finder

The unnamed English sleuth travels the world in search of special ingredients, giving this series an international flavor. There are no recipes but lots of discussions of gourmet foods and menus.


Lamalle, Cecile - Charly Poisson, chef/restaurant co-owner

Chubby Charly Poisson is co-owner of La Fermette, a French restaurant in upstate New York.Recipes included.


Laurence, Janet - Darina Lisle, caterer/cookbook writer

This series is set in England’s West Country has Darina and her close friend, a detective, getting involved in all sorts of murderous situations.


Myers, Tamar - Magdelina Yoder, innkeeper

Magdelina is the owner of the Penn Dutch Inn, in a Mennonite town in Pennsylvania Dutch country.Recipes included.


Page, Katherina Hall - Faith Fairchild, caterer

Faith, caterer and minister's wife, has a penchant for stumbling over bodies.Originally from New York City, she lives with her family in Massachusetts, although locales do vary in this series.Recipes included.


Rich, Virginia - Eugenia Potter, gourmet cook

Rich chronicles the adventures of Eugenia Potter.Following Rich’s death, the series has been continued by Nancy Pickard.Recipes included.


Richman, Phyllis - Chas Wheatley, newspaper food critic

Chas is the food critic/restaurant reviewer in Washington, D.C.Richman gives the reader an inside view of both newspapers and restaurants.


Temple, Lou Jane - Heaven Lee, caterer

Smart and sassy Heaven Lee runs a catering business in Kansas City, Missouri.Includes recipes.
