Avoid spending time waiting in line for minor permits by faxing your permit application.
Building permit applications faxed by 5:00pm are ready for pickup the following business day. Applications downloaded from this site may also be submitted at the Community Development Department counter at City Hall.
The following are the types of permit applications that may be faxed in:
- Replacement of water heaters, furnaces or heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Reroof permits that do not require structural upgrades to the roof system.
- Repair or replacement of gas, sewer, or water lines including repiping of water systems inside residential units.
- Residential electrical service changes up to and including 200 Amps.
- Residential chimney rebuilds.
To apply for permits by fax, just follow these simple steps:
- Download and print the Building Permit Application* (PDF—47K) (Note: This version of the Building Permit Fax Application can be filled out and saved within Acrobat Reader.
- Fill out the form.
- Check that the printed form's required information is filled out correctly.
- Sign the application and fax the completed form to the Building Inspection Division at (650) 903-6474.
- Your permit will be available for pick up and payment in the Community Development Department located on the first floor of City Hall, City of Mountain View, 500 Castro Street.
Business hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM—Noon and 1:00 PM—4:00 PM (the department is closed daily from Noon to 1:00 PM for lunch).
